How to Find a Family Doctor

When you are trying to find a local health care provider, there are a number of things you should specifically be looking for.

How to Find a Doctor

You want to find a doctor you can trust, first and foremost. They should be someone whose advice you’d be willing to take because of their expertise and knowledge, but also because they truly care about you and your family. Take time to find the right one. Think about what exactly you need: A primary care provider? A family doctor? a specialist? or something else?

Primary Care Provider

A primary care provider is the kind of doctor you see for most health issues. We’ll work with you to get your recommended screenings, regular checkups, manage chronic conditions, or refer you to a specialist if that’s what you need. Your primary care provider can be your personal doctor, or the doctor your whole family sees. They get to know you and and your family, and fit the exact needs of all of them.

Specialists

You might need a specialist, however. Specialists treat specific conditions. Specialists include cardiologists, oncologists, psychologists, allergists, podiatrists, and orthopedists. You should get a referral from your primary care provider before you go to a specialist. This will help with billing, but more importantly, it will also help you get exactly the right care you need.
